Introduction
these photos were taken in a tiny village called qawawis in the south hebron hills during the jewish holiday weekend of purim. qawawis is a beautiful and peaceful palestinian community surrounded by illegal settlment outposts, a military base, an illegal israeli settlement and a settler only bypass road. the community left and sought refuge in the nearby town of yatta in mid 2000 after illegal Israeli settlers established two communities on the hilltops in the area and frequently came into qawawis, harrassing and threatening the local residents. just over one month ago, the residents of qawawis returned home to their village, accompanied by internationals from the i.s.m. the community still experiences daily 'visits' from the nearby israeli settlers... the photos in this album show both the people from qawawis and their not so friendly neighbors.
